A brown creeper, one of my favorite winter birds, died this afternoon along side the walk that runs from the driveway to the front door of my home. It was not there when I left the house at 1:15 pm, but was there when I returned at 3:45. It did not appear to have been attacked or killed by a predator. Just there, very visible, on top of the snow. I delight in seeing this obscure species every day at my suet feeder on the trunk of an oak tree. I even make sure some tiny morsels are squished into the bark to make it easier for them to find food. They also go onto the ground to pick up the tiniest bits that fall from the aggressive pecking of the other suet feeders.

I usually just see one at a time. We shall look to see if there are others.
