Robyn and I checked out the St.Louis River at Fon du Lac south of Duluth this evening.  Not much river is open yet, which made for easy birding near the Hwy 23 bridge.Four Ruddy Ducks were the surprise for us, at the upstream end of the island at Chambers Grove Park.8 Tundra SwansPlenty o' Canada Geese & MallardsHoodies & Common MergsGadwallsRing necked DucksPied billed GrebesCommon GoldeneyesA lone GB Heron8 Wood DucksBuffleheadsAll made the late spring feel warm & full of promise after too much snow and a long winter.Plenty of Juncos are keeping the backyard hopping until more summer species and migrants arrive. After just returning from ten days birding Costa Rica, these midwestern birds made us really feel at home again!Good birding!Rick SchroederIn The Little Red HouseIn The Saginaw WoodSent from my Galaxy
