Estimate at Crane Trust Nature Center, is 404,000 from Grand Island to Kearney. We have seen many feeding in the fields, along the dirt roads, and even along I-80, and then huge numbers coming down to roost in the Platte at Alda. Also have seen many meadowlarks, robins, red-winged blackbirds, horned larks, an Eurasian collared dove, a small flock of snow geese, a black phase red-tailed hawk (interestingly, many red-tailed on the trip down, but all garden variety), yellowlegs sp, blue-winged teal, green-winged teal, shovellers, wigeon in the little ponds behind the motel. Orion bright at night too. Tomorrow we’re driving down to a couple of the WPAs to see if we can find a prairie falcon again this year.
