We also saw a GBH today flying over the Crow where it crosses Hwy 101 at
the Rogers/Otsego border. I later checked the rookery along the Dayton
River Road (County 12) west of the intersection with 70th St. NE. I think
that must be Otsego, although it is just a bit west of Old Dayton. A lot of
the more western groups of nests were occupied by pairs of birds! It's
always so exciting when they arrive. I also saw a pair of Sandhill cranes
flying west over the Target in Rogers! There were pairs of swans on two
separate ponds in Rogers, one with a bit of water along one edge, the other
completely iced over. Let's hope this warmer weather provides a little more
water for them.

Earlier this week, on Monday, there was a lone female red-winged blackbird
in the back yard. On Tuesday, after not seeing any juncos for a couple of
weeks, there was a small flock in the yard. There was also group of male
RWBBs with at least one grackle among them.

It's been so wonderful to walk outside and hear all the birdsong!

Happy spring, everyone!
