I was looking at the puffed- against- the -cold eagles on my oak and the
turkey lumps on my fence and trees when I saw a bird that upon 1st sight
looked an awful lot (why is the lot awful?) like a starling.

I did the only thing a birder could do ( especially given the severe cold);
I grabbed my binoculars and trained them upon them
 They were having a go at my feeders.

Yup. Stubby tail, black, but not entirely as the black seemingly masked
just slightly brown and speckled and the head was a blacky sheen. The final
id was that beak, longish and yellow.

Three starlings.
Aren't they supposed to be, literally snow birds?
