A couple of friends and I spent 4 1/2 hours walking the trails at Ritter
Farm on Friday
afternoon and observed 30 species of birds with another two heard but
not seen.
Highlight of the day was a tree-top flyover by a single Sandhill Crane.
On the water were
a couple of Blue-winged Teal and a Pied-billed Grebe along with
Mallards, Coots, and
Geese. Water adjacent were a Great Egret and a Green Heron. Three
sparrow species
(Field, White-throated, and Song) but only one warbler. Other
interesting sightings were
Hermit Thrush, Brown Thrasher, Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, and Eastern
Phoebe. The rest
were mostly what one might call "the usual suspects." All in all, a good
day.
