This morning, in yet another failed attempt to see the Blue Grosbeak, I
finally encountered the Bell's Vireos. A pair of them were chasing each
other around the shrub, of which the front edge has been submerged and
deadened in the flooded pond, at the East end of the main marsh on the
north side of the road. This is the shrub in which they appeared to nest
the last couple of years.
They disappeared over the top and around to the back of the shrub, giving
their unmistakeable vocalizations. The calls continued a few minutes,
diminishing as they seemed to retreat towards shrubs and trees by the
fenced area to the rear.
