[Mnbird] Diamond Lake in Dayton

This afternoon, my husband called and said, "Get the dog and a leash ready,
and bring your binoculars and the "good" camera - I'll be there in 5
minutes. You're going to love this!"

He took me to Diamond Lake, on Diamond Lake Road, not too far east of Henn.
Cty 13. There were at least 100 white pelicans in residence, along with a
good number of cormorants, and many, many other waterfowl. Of course, by
the time we got there, most of the birds had moved away across the lake,
but I got a few photos with my not-nearly-long-enough lens - enough to
generally confirm via fuzzy enlargement what I thought I saw with my binos:
redheads, scaup (greater, by my guess), buffleheads, a few common
goldeneyes, and some common mergansers. I also spotted a great blue heron,
and there was a bald eagle perched in a nearby tree. Score!! There were
also a few ducks(?) all the way across the lake, of course, that appeared
to have dark heads and necks, but all white bodies, including their backs.
Any guesses?

Nice surprise. What a good husband, eh? ;-)

Cheers,

Kim Wilcox
