The Black Scoter was still present at 3:30 today, near the south shore of
the lake. It was across from the viewing platform, a bit to the west. She
had her head tucked in for awhile, so her white facial signature was not
immediately obvious. However, the search-time required to find her, yielded
a bonus view of a Red-breasted merganser surfacing from a dive.
Given the location of the viewing platform, it might be a shorter haul with
scope and tripod to walk from the east end of the (closed-off) road,
reached from Silver Bell Road. But the west entrance seemed to offer more
gulls to search, if looking for the Greater or Lesser Black-backed. Either
way, it's a healthy walk.
