Field Trip Report


There were lots of birds moving at the Bass Ponds this morning.  There were still large numbers of dabbling Ducks on Long Meadow Lake and we observed a small flock of Bonaparte's Gulls near pond C.  There were distant looks at Ruby & Golden-crowned Kinglets and some of the group observed some Yellow-rumped Warblers.  Song Sparrows were abundant and there were also a few Fox Sparrows and American Tree Sparrows.  Prior to the walks some of the participants observed the Barred Owl, near the lower parking area and a possible Yellow Warbler was observed just East of the Lower Parking area.  Here are a few of the species observed by the group:


Waterfowl - 16 species, including Blue-winged Teal, Northern Shoveler, Lesser Scaup, Bufflehead and Northern Pintail.

Great Blue Heron

Great Egret

Turkey Vulture

Cooper's Hawk

Sandhill Crane

Wilson's Snipe

Bonaparte's Gull

Golden-crowned Kinglet

Ruby-crowned Kinglet

Yellow-rumped Warbler

Fox Sparrow
