The Freeborn County Fair came to a screeching halt with the demolition derby. I talked with countless good folks who stopped by the Conservation Building during the week to visit about birds and all other things. I find it interesting as to what the most common questions and comments have been through the years. This year, the most frequent sharing of sightings involved trumpeter swans and sandhill cranes. They have nested in the area for some years, but it’s exciting to see so many young ones. Cicada killer wasps were frequently mentioned. I’m a big fan of insects that cast large shadows. It’s always a treat to visit with nature nuts. The Fair was fair. That’s all I can ask.
